In the words of Andrew Jackson, “I will speak ill of no one, and speak all the good I know of everybody.” Andrew Jackson knew the power of words, as did many great people in our history. Currently, more and more people are aware of the power of words and how they can affect people.
And, in this age of technology, where everyone is connected to their smart phones, computers, and the like, words have indeed become extremely powerful. Unfortunately, words on a screen have too often been misinterpreted, so it has become even more important that we communicate clearly, as well as, mindfully.
It is my hope that we can use words to bring more love and kindness into our world. Let us use our power of words to heal. Let us serve as an example to those who do not know any better. Let us spread news that is positive, kind, and inspiring. Let us share words that are helpful, necessary, and true. Let us put into practice T-H-I-N-K; and, ask ourselves: Are our words True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, or Kind?
We also need to remember to be gentler with ourselves and end the negative self-talk such as: We aren’t smart, creative, clever, talented, or attractive enough. Remember that we are wonderful just as we are, perfectly imperfect. Remember, words have power! (That is why having a Word of the Year is such a great tool, as it will will influence our thoughts and actions.)
