Forget the Clock

Have you noticed how more and more people are abbreviating words as they speak? For example, “fam.” would be used for family; or “b.” for bye. And, what is with all the acronyms like: TTYL – “talk to you later”; IMO or IMHO – “in my opinion” or “in my humble opinion”; ISO – “in search of”.  Is it that we are lazy? Or, are we trying to cram as much information as possible into the smallest amount of time and space? I think it is a bit of both.

I wonder what would happen if we just slow down a bit? What if we took more time and space? Would we appreciate and value each other a bit more?

What if we could forget the clock? Not only would our own personal relationships improve; but, I bet our whole world would be more loving and understanding. Let us imagine what it would be like if we had all the time in the world. Our listening skills would improve as we are able to allow the speaker to fully develop his or her story. No need for us to speed up the conversation and press the speaker to get to the point. We would have more patience. There would be less road rage. We could be more mindful. We would be able to gather our thoughts. We would be able slow down and watch our actions. We would be able to see all the little miracles in our world that we often miss. Maybe, we could try to forget the clock and remember to embrace the moment.
