Through the years, I have developed a strong connection with myself. Dr. Steve Maraboli says “The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.” Through self-awareness, I have learned to appreciate and love myself as I paid attention to my self-talk. You know those thoughts that run through our heads to convey observations about ourselves: our qualities and short-comings. In order to create a positive relationship with ourselves, it is important that we eliminate the negative self-talk and increase positive affirmations.
When we establish relationships with other people, we pay attention to them and their needs, right? That is exactly what we need to do for ourselves. Let us pay attention to our needs. We our worth the time to give our body what it needs, like: enough fluids especially water, nutrient-dense foods, daily activity/exercise, 10 to 20 minutes of quiet time for prayer or meditation, and enough sound sleep.
When we are with our friends we tell them how much we love and appreciate them, right? Why don’t we do that for ourselves? Some of the best things we can say to ourselves are: “I am worthy of love and appreciation.” “I am significant.” “I do matter.” Take a moment and say these statements to yourself right now at least 3 times as you breathe deeply and slowly. If that doesn’t quite feel authentic, try this statement, “I am beginning to feel worthy of love and appreciation.” Move towards feeling comfortable with yourself, appreciating and loving yourself. You are significant and important. You ARE precious.
