As we advance toward the last days of winter, the days get longer and longer. Morning light has been peeping through my window earlier and earlier each day; and, the daylight has been lingering into the evening hours. With this expansion of light with each passing day, we garner more and more heat energy from the sun. As a result, the climate in the month of March in the northern hemisphere becomes gentler and friendlier… true to the adage: “in like a lion and out like a lamb.” And soon, spring will be here.
But before the vernal equinox, Daylight Savings Time pounces upon us this weekend, like a cat on a mouse. We will be advancing our clocks one hour before bedtime Saturday night. At 2 a.m. Sunday morning, it will really be 3 a.m. We are in command of time or at least our clocks. As a result of this time shift, our sunrise and sunset will initially be one hour later; and, we will have daylight longer into our evenings. So, here we are, doing the time shift (warp) again. (Daylight Saving Time (United States) 2016 begins at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 13 and ends at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 6.)
